Salina: A hidden gem among the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily
Salina is a small island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the northern coast of Sicily. Together with the six other islands of Stromboli, Lipari, Filicudi, Panarea, Vulcano and Alicudi, it forms the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands, which are often referred to as the Lipari Islands.

    Salina
The early history of Salina is actually the history of the area around Onondaga Lake and the salt industry. Today, Salina consists of five small suburban communities which are known as Mattydale, Liverpool, Lyncourt, Galeville and a portion of North Syracuse.

    History of Salina

    • 4th Millennium BCE (Neolithic Era): Early human settlements emerged, driven by the island's fertile volcanic soil and fresh water springs, which made Salina an agricultural hub compared to neighboring islands.
    • 4th–3rd Century BCE (Hellenistic Period): Greeks settled near Santa Marina, establishing agricultural trade and utilizing the island’s natural salt pan (*salina*) at Lingua, which gave the island its modern name.
